I killed 20 minutes trying to think of a clever blog name and failed beautifully.

Well lookie here...I'm blogging.

I came to terms with the fact that Facebook simply doesn't cut it sometimes.  I have a lot of thoughts.  Too many.  There are times I consider writing a new note instead of a status because everything I want to talk about in a moment is just too stinkin' long.  But nobody really reads notes.  So I'll start sharing all my oh-so-elaborate thoughts here.

As the title of this post says, I was starting this blog when I got to the part where you have to name the damn thing, and I stopped and thought, "...crap.  What am I supposed to call my blog, Kayla's Korner?  Or something deep and brooding where I get all pretentious about knowing big, fancy adjectives like 'ethereal' and 'scintillating' and then slap a random object on the end?  Yeah- I could call this thing Dysfunctional Kumquats.  That'll show 'em...?"

Finally, I realized I'm doing what I always tend to do, which is waste a ton of time on a name.  I doubt I'll lose business either way, even if I had just named it, "Look, I Made a Thing."  Which I may have seriously considered.

Anyway, the name I finally settled on, The Universe Next Door, I took from a quote by E. E. Cummings, one of the true geniuses.  He had a knack for weirdly awesome poetry, and this quote is the end of a particularly interesting one.

"listen: there's a hell of a good universe next door; let's go"

The poem's called, "pity this busy monster, manunkind."  See, the guy was literally too cool for basic grammar, like capitalization.

It stuck with me for some reason.  You could think of a blog as "the universe next door" because of how you really get a look at the mind of another.  Or something.

I can't say for sure how often I'll be updating this, but right now I'm pretty excited about it.  Like I said, I have a lot of thoughts, and I want people to hear them.  Also, I miss writing.  So I hope those of you who decide to read this will keep reading!
